Puff pastry was the theme at a recent cooking class hosted at Hirsch’s Umlazi. The free cooking classes aims to uplift the community by empowering men and women with skills that allow them to support their families.
“One of the most important aspects of working with puff pastry is temperature. If the pastry is not cold enough when going into the oven, it will not be as flakey as what it should be. Another important point to remember is not to handle the pastry too much, as it might end up being tough when baked, said Mary Ann Vundla, owner of her own catering company and teacher at the class.
