Umlazi community celebrates as local cooking school students graduate
It was a joyous morning as the students from Mary Ann’s Kitchen graduated after a year of dedication and persistance.
Hirsch’s Umlazi, which is also the venue of the community kitchen, was alive with the sounds of singing, dancing and motivating speeches from students, sponsors, local schools and CEO of Hirsch’s and business woman of the Year for 2012, Margaret Hirsch.
The well organised graduation saw 51 eager and passionate students graduate after completing the one year course. The course is presented to any member of the community fre of charge and aims to educate and empower individuals who want improve their lives.
Amongst the guest speakers were Wendy Crosser, deploy chef and Knorr representative, one of the main sponsors of the consumables used during the classes. Local choir sensation, Voices of Angels delivered an inspiring performance in celebration of all the great efforts that collect and multiply through the upliftment program. Founder and lecturer of this community cooking school, Mary Ann Vundla congratulated all the students that completed the course as she stood proudly and looked at what they have accomplished. Awarding the certifates was Margaret Hirsch. She shared a motivational story from her own digest of life & business experience. Hirsch’s not only sponsors the venue, but also all the appliances and equipment used. Other performances included Nonhlanhla Hadebe that ended of the celebrations with song.
Mary Ann’s Kitchen is a free community kitchen that welcomes any member of their local community who wants to improve their lives by learning cooking and business skills. The classes are hosted at Hirsch’s Umlazi and takes place twice a week.
