“At Hirsch’s Boksurg, we are always trying to find ways to give back to the community and our educational domestic workers courses are one of the many ways we do this,” said Brigitte Thysse, the public relations and marketing manager of Hirsch’s Boksburg.
The courses are free of charge and are open to any community domestic worker who would like to take advantage of the opportunity to learn and grow in their personal capacity.
The courses are run by Thysse and Lindiwe Mashile, on a monthly basis.
The domestic workers are taken on an in-depth training session on the up-keep and maintenance of household appliances, such as ovens, microwaves, TVs, fridges, freezers and all types of stoves and extractor fans (to name a few).
“We acknowledge that appliances and electronics are becoming more and more complicated,” said Thysse.
“By hosting these courses, we give the women peace of mind when they are cleaning and utilising appliances, as this can be quite intimidating at times.”
After the course, each domestic worker receives a certificate of completion to thank them and reward them for being proactive and taking the initiative to learn and grow.
It can also be utilised in their CV’s.
“The smiles on their faces when they received their certificates is a moment I will never forget,” said Thysse, after a recent course.
The first domestic workers course for 2015 takes place on February 24, at Hirsch’s Boksburg, from 10am to 11.30am.
To book your domestic worker for the course, simply RSVP their name and surname to brigitte@hirschs.co.za.
