The Importance of Tourism to Support Business Owners in Cape Town
By Mariëtte du Toit-Helmbold - CEO of Cape Town Tourism
About our Guest Speaker:
A Heart and Vision for Responsible Tourism
Mariette Du Toit-Helmbold holds the position of CEO at Cape Town Tourism CEO for 6 years running. Under her leadership, the organisation has won critical acclaim as a Visitor Services and Destination Marketing organisation doing sterling work at the coalface of one of the country’s fastest growing industries. In 2004 she was widely praised for initiatives which culminated in the then fragmented Cape Town tourism industry being brought under one roof, with the establishment of a unified tourism body for the Greater Cape Town Metropole – Cape Town Tourism. Mariette’s love of the tourism industry is encapsulated in a quote from Cecil Rajendra, a Malaysian human rights activist:"The raw material of the tourist industry is the flesh and blood of people and their cultures." Tourism to Mariette is a way of life. “It thrills me, motivates me and enthuses me”.
