The one day Workshop is aimed at individuals and small and medium, sized business / professionals, who require an understanding of how their business, and tax obligations interact. By knowing what is required upfront, the workshop will provide the client with knowledge to actively do some tax planning to optimise their tax affairs, thereby ensuring that their decisions are made with a sound understanding of the potential tax implications.
The workshop is of practical content, and worked examples are completed with the workshop.

Tax framework and Income Tax Act , Deductions - Individuals and Business owners, Medical Expenses and Contributions, Home Office expenses, Capital Gains Tax, Vehicle Allowances and business mileage calculation, Lump Sums from Retirement Funds and other Service Payments, Implications for equities traders and investors, with in-depth discussion on capital gains and trading profits, and Provisional Tax
This one day practical workshop will also provide you with the information and tools to:
· Confidently calculate your tax liabilities, and at the same time ensuring you claim all deductions available to you,
· Ensure you claim your vehicle expenses to minimize the tax payable on your vehicle allowance – actual costs, deemed costs and the log book
· Calculate how much of your medical expenses you will receive as a deduction
· How to go about claiming for a home office
· How to treat your income received from insurances and other lump sum payouts
· Calculation of provisional tax
Plus some administrative advice on how to:
1. Submit your e-filing
2. Register an objection
3. Use the e-filing calculator to verify the amount of tax due
The presenter Gavin Beretta FCIS, MBA, CMT – has held a number of senior positions in medium and large organizations over the past 25 years, including that of Finance Manager, Finance Director and Senior Procurement Manager Africa. His experience included valuing business’ for takeover, providing finance leadership to various management teams, and embedding operational efficiency in procurement activities across Africa.
He currently provides tax and accounting services to small and medium sized business, as well as individuals.
He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, and obtained an MBA in 2003, specializing in international Finance and Financial Risk Management.
He is also a Member of the New York Market Technicians Association and holds a degree in using technical analysis to invest in equities, both locally and internationally.
