Domestic workers are the unsung heroines in most homes around South Africa. They are the housekeepers, they take care of basic maintenance in the home, they cook, they are child minders, some do the gardening - and they generally play an integral part in making sure that everything runs smoothly – and amicably - in the home.
Hirsch’s, who hold regular training sessions on appliance maintenance in each of their branches for Domestic Workers, would like to acknowledge these stalwarts in the home by holding a “Domestic Worker of the month” competition in every area in which they operate in South Africa. The monthly winners will each receive a Hirsch voucher, hamper from Unilever and Hirsch’s and a certificate , and their names will go forward for the title Domestic Worker of the Year, with a prize of R5000 and a bed and base set.
Commenting on the reason behind holding this competition, Chief Operations Executive of the company, Margaret Hirsch said: “ Domestic workers are far too often taken for granted. I could never cope with my work load and the amount of travelling that I do if I didn’t have a fantastic domestic worker to help me in each our homes . They take care of everything, from filling the gas bottles, to making sure that the post is scanned through to me wherever I am. I think as working women we start to rely on our domestic workers more and more and with a little bit of training they can upskill themselves and that’s the object of the exercise, to help them thrive and grow as individuals..
If you would like to nominate your Domestic Worker for the monthly competition, call in at your nearest Hirsch Branch and pick up an entry form. We are looking for a 100 word motivation on why they deserve the prize.
