Hirsch’s Boksburg/Meadowdale attended the “Captains of Industry Forum” this morning at Classic India in Boksburg, where issues and progress on the popular “Aerotropolis” were addressed by civil engineer and head of the development of the Gautrain Project, Mr Jack Van Der Merwe.
Jack van der Merwe, who successfully oversaw the development of the Gautrain project, has been appointed by Premier Nomvula Mokonyane to lead the development of the aerotropolis and inform the public on its advances. Topics such as transportation, economic forecast, job opportunities, rail system implementation and new Gautrain rail systems were discussed at this mornings meeting.
A new 25-year draft transport plan for Gauteng that was discussed, which shows the development of the Aerotropolis creating as many as 700,000 jobs! This transportation plan includes extended routes to the Gautrain, for example, a route from Honeydew to Boksburg and visa versa. Other transportation improvements include priority bus route systems and secondary bus route system. “If we do not do it in the next 25 years, highway speeds will reduce to 12 km per hour” said Jack Van Der Merwe.
Due to the forecast of this project, density of population is likely to increase. “Businesses on the East Rand are encouraged to stay as we are conveniently situated as the forecast unfolds” said Brigitte.
