The Samsung Rosebank team gathered early Saturday morning and went out on the streets of Rosebank, Johannesburg to donate food and clothes to the homeless as an effort for Mandela Day.
“Wake up, let’s go before the sprinklers go on,” said a vagrant to his friend who slept next to him. Woken from their sleep, the vagrants smiled as they looked up to find food handed to them. Thanks and may God bless you, were the words that many of them said. Curious motorists who stared out of their windows, hooted to show support for the team’s act of kindness.
“You do not have to be a billionaire to make difference in someone’s life,” said Mbali, a Samsung employee.
Another staff member, Jaimie, expressed his heart felt moment when he saw a group of young boy’s sleeping close to each other in order to stay warm. “I was a bit down when I saw them lying next to the sprinklers. However, that changed when I saw the smiles and excitement on their faces,” he said. Yuvain who also took part in the initiative said. “What I saw was a real eye opener for me. It taught me to appreciate what I have, such as a roof over my head, the food that I receive and family to comfort me. They do not have that.”
Inspired by their actions, the team decided to contribute one day of every month and make it a Mandela Day.
