I am not sure if you know this or not, but everything that you do tells a story.
It’s true. It doesn’t matter if you’re a firefighter or a doctor or a mom or a waitress or a barista at Starbucks – your life is telling a story every day. And if you’re keeping a blog your blog tells a story. It tells the story of you.
What kind of story do you want to be telling?
I have spent a little over three months investing in this blog. I can only hope I have been able to serve my community. But the last few weeks I have been struggling to write about the topics that I used to. I started wondering… what story is my blog telling?
Has that every happened to you? I don’t know about you, but for me it was really disturbing.
You see, I have a tendency to lose interest in things, sometimes. I think you can identify with that. I have committed to blogging for the long haul. But suddenly I felt worried that I was being pigeon-holed by the topics I had chosen.
Even deeper then that, it made me realize that I didn’t know how all of my passions were connected.
I wrote a few guests post on topics of faith and lifestyle, trying to find excitement in writing again. Then, I had a little bit of a breakdown on Friday morning. I told a friend that I was tired of writing about social media and that my blog had been suffering because of it (my apologies).
This friend reassured me that when I write in connection to the things that I am passionate about, that my writing is good.
It hit me.
I had an epiphany. You know one of those moments where new perspectives literally manifest into reality. I finished my dinner at the restaurant where I was sitting, paid my tab and walked to my car. I made the connection between ALL of the things I am passionate about.
The reason I love blogging so much is because my blog is telling a story.
Think about it for a minute. Everything you do tells a story, whether you realize it or not. I am really passionate about the way that we can tell story through writing, blogging, social media, public speaking, etc.
Today marks a shift on this blog. A point of maturation in my process as a blogger/writer. I am excited to move forward, with a clearer perspective on what I have been doing this all along.
I will start focusing on story telling as theme in lifestyle, faith, blogging and social media.
There will still be practical blogging and social media tips, but we will shift focus in those tips. You’ll read articles about living a better story, writing a better story, and seeing perspective of other people’s story.
But for today… what story is you blog telling???
Speaking of story, here’s one I think you should check out. I’m in the middle of writing a story with Ally Spotts. One that’s really important to me.
