Margaret Hirsch’s latest cookbook, Living the Modern Vegetarian Life is a true inspiration to all cooks – whether they are vegetarian’s or not. It is filled with a deliciously moreish selection of foolproof recipes from snacks and starters (try the cumin popcorn on sweetcorn soup!) to some great main course ideas. The green and gold vegetarian terrine is the perfect meal, for instance, for patriotic south Africans at a sports function - to some unique pudding ideas, including an intriguing sounding green tea ice cream.
Margaret who is Hirsch’s Chief Operations Executive, was famous for starting the first microwave cookery schools in South Africa. She co-wrote the book with her lifelong friend and fellow food fundi, Vanessa de Beer who today runs a catering business in Portugal and they were assisted by Anne Morgan on the recipe development side. This is their second cookery book collaboration – the first book, entitled At Home With Hirsch’s was published in 2002 and is still available at all Hirsch stores.
“This book features some of my favourite recipes. They have fantastic nutritional value and are easy to make, and even if you aren’t a vegetarian, I’m sure you’ll enjoy them. I’m hoping that this book will inspire those of you who sometimes don’t feel like cooking to actually take up the challenge, cook a mouthwatering meal, sit back with friends and family, and enjoy it. To me that’s the ultimate.” Says Margaret.
