Grade 10 students from Crawford College recently attended a Going Green Entrepreneurs day at Hirsch's Umhlanga. "They were all eager to learn about how to start up a business, and secondly how to go green at home, school and
in the office." Said Hirsch's Warren Pearce. Luci Hirsch addressed the
scholars, inspiring them with the story of Hirsch's and how it was started with only R900 in 1979. The students went on to watch educational videos by Allan Hirsch on saving power and water - by adjusting their daily habits.
At the end of the day the students were treated to a cooking demonstration by Miele, with Cheryl Woollatt showing them a few tips on how to prepare healthy and easy meals for their parents over the weekends.
Candice Paton (teacher) said, Many of the students enjoyed listening to Luci Hirsch talk about how her family started the Hirsch company. I defiantly feel that it was an eye opener to them to work hard to achieve their dreams of becoming successful business men and women one day. A huge buzz went around when they learnt that over R7 Million worth of stock is kept at the Umhlanga Home Store alone. The figures and size were really overwhelming and inspiring for them to see.
The inspirational talk on Mind Power given was fantastic to help them focus on goals not only now while they are at school but also in their futures as members of the business environment of South Africa. This was a great way to get the students to realize their goals in school and life and to work hard to achieve them.
" I am so excited to be doing my part in conserving energy at home, and I have learnt so many new things that I can share with my family" said Shreya Singh, Crawford College student. Hirsch's Umhlanga hosts free educational tours for schools at the store in Umhlanga. For further information you can contact Warren on 031 570 000 / warren@hirschs.co.za
