On Thursday morning Hirsch’s Milnerton hosted a networking meeting with David Holtzhausen, executive director for BNI, speaking about the Networking Disconnect and how to get the most out of your networking. Said David “How many of you came today to sell something?”. Some people raised their hands, he then continued “How many came here to buy something?”. To this no one raised their hands. David reinforced that networking is about building relationships, not about selling. Everyone attending soon realised that it is called networking, as one has to work at it to make it work. David went on to identify the following traits of a good networker. A networker should be positive, enthusiastic, trustworthy, and follow through. Said David “Without follow through, one can never expect to build a relationship of trust”. Attendees left fully armed with new networking skills, and put them to the test, as they spent the remainder of the morning passing referrals and setting up one on one meetings amongst themselves. Said PRO Nardo van Eck “Hirsch’s Business Networking Breakfast is hosted on the last Thursday of every month, come rain or shine”.
