Hirsch’s Boksburg recently hosted its Junior Super Chef competition, run by Hirsch’s countrywide and sponsored by Defy, Green Pan, Snappy Chef and Zwilling. The atmosphere in the store was electrifying as family and friends across Boksburg came to support the juniors. 10 contestants between the ages of 8 and 13 competed for the Boksburg Junior Super Chef finalist title. Every contestant was presented with a mystery box containing 10 ingredients from which the contestants had to prepare one main and one starter or dessert within one hour.
“The contestants certainly knew what they were doing and could definitely give some parents a run for their money. The level of culinary talent it’s definitely the best we has seen so far.” Commented the co-ordinator of the competition, Warren Pearce.
Planning, execution, presentation, taste, initiative where some of the criteria the panel of judges were looking at when scoring the ‘little chef’s’. After the hour was over, the panel of four judges, judged every contestant’s dishes according to the specific criteria. The judge’s decision was unanimous and the winner for the evening and crowned the Boksburg DEFY Junior Super Chef Finalist was Isabella Goble. Isabella is 9 years old and a pupil of Laerskool Concordia. She was excited to win a DEFY Stick Blender.”
Isabella will battle it out at the Gauteng finals on the 17th of June at Hirsch Fourways – and hopes to be crowned the Gauteng Defy Junior Super Chef 2016.
