TOPIC: The Impossible is POSSIBLE
In this talk, Paralympic Medalist, Motivational speaker and Shark attack Survivor, Achmat Hassiem, will be sharing his inspirational story, proving that “The Impossible is POSSIBLE”.
Achmat Hassiem lost part of his leg to a Great White when participating in a lifeguard training session in Muizenberg in 2006. Since then, he has made an amazing recovery, learning to walk with his prosthetic foot, even going so far as to compete in the Beijing 2008 Paralympic Games, 2010 World Swimming Championships in the Netherlands and the 2012 London Summer Paralympics
Achmat is currently captain of the Western Province able-bodied swimming team, and has led them to victory for three years running. He competed in the SA National disabled championships, winning six gold medals of the eight events he entered and setting three new records. He then completed the 7.5km Cadiz Robben Island cold water swim. On 1 September 2012, he won a bronze medal in the 100 m butterfly at the London Summer Paralympics, setting a new African record of 57.76 seconds in the final.
He presents motivational talks, on his life experiences and how he overcame the challenges he faced, giving the audience tools for their own lives. "That shark changed my life for the best. I could shake it by the fin. I have been honoured by the opportunities I've been given and the people I have met."
